Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 17, 2026

Today Then (“the app”) is a journaling app that shows you a photo from your photo library and lets you write one line about it. It is designed to keep your memories on your device. This policy explains what the app does and doesn't do with your information.

The short version

Information the app uses

Photo library

With your permission, the app reads your photo library to find a photo taken on today's date in a previous year (or an older photo if none exists). Photos are displayed in the app directly from your library. Today Then does not copy, upload or share them. If you choose “Limited Access”, the app can only see the photos you select. You can change this at any time in the iPhone Settings app.

Your entries

The line you write, its date, and a reference (identifier) to the photo you picked are saved in local storage on your device. They are not sent anywhere. Deleting the app, or using Settings → Delete all my data, removes them.

Reminders

If you turn on the daily reminder, the app asks for notification permission and schedules a local notification on your device at the time you choose. No notification data leaves your device.

Free trial record

To apply the 30-day free trial fairly, the app stores the date you started using it on your device, including in the iOS Keychain, which can persist if you reinstall the app. It contains no personal information. “Delete all my data” keeps this date so the trial can't be restarted.

Subscriptions and payments

Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. Today Then never sees your payment details. We use RevenueCat to validate purchases and manage subscription status. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user identifier, your purchase and subscription receipts, and technical information such as your device type and IP address, solely to provide this service. Apart from this and the links you choose to open, the app does not send information over the internet. (If a photo is stored in iCloud Photos, iOS itself may download it to show it; that is handled by Apple, not by Today Then.)

Exporting your data

If you use Settings → Export entries, the app creates a JSON file of your entries and opens the iOS share sheet. Where that file goes is entirely up to you. We do not receive it.

Sharing and selling

We do not sell your information, share it for advertising, or use it to track you across other companies' apps and websites.

Data retention and deletion

Because your data lives on your device, you are in control. Delete individual entries inside the app, delete everything with Settings → Delete all my data, or uninstall the app. Your photos in the Photos app are never changed or deleted by Today Then. For questions about subscription records held by RevenueCat or Apple, contact us and we will help.

Children

Today Then is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
